The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has identified highly pathogenic avian influenza in commercial poultry at new locations in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, British Columbia. Additional control zones are being implemented to contain the spread of the virus, with 41 premises in Canada affected, 37 of which are in B.C. A B.C. teenager hospitalized with the H5N1 variant of avian flu remains in critical condition, as human infections of the flu are rare despite widespread circulation in wild birds and poultry for over two decades.
