On Sunday, an avalanche struck a group of five skiers in Italy’s northern Piedmont region, killing three and injuring two who were airlifted to the hospital. The incident occurred on the eastern face of Punta Valgrande, a summit on the Italy-Switzerland border, with the deceased skiers being dragged downhill for several hundred meters. Prior to the avalanche, an alert had been issued for the area above 2,100 meters due to a “considerable danger of avalanches.”
