Australia strengthens hate speech laws after Bondi massacre
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Australia has announced tougher laws on hate speech following the Bondi Beach terror attack, where Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid Akram, opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration, resulting in 15 deaths. Naveed Akram faces 59 charges, while Sajid Akram was shot dead by police. Proposed measures include harsher penalties for promoting violence and a new aggravated hate-speech offence. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese plans to introduce legislative reforms to combat hate and radicalisation, with a focus on the investigation of hate preachers.
