Aussie surfers get boost in new-look World Surf League

Australian surfers will benefit from a revised 2026 World Surf League (WSL) calendar that eliminates the controversial finals day format for deciding world champions. The Championship Tour will begin in April at the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, followed by events at Margaret River and Snapper Rocks, optimizing swell conditions and enhancing the Australian leg. The new structure includes 12 events, with the season concluding at the Pipe Masters in Hawaii, and a softened mid-season cut based on surfers’ best seven results, aimed at improving overall competition fairness and feedback incorporation.
