AT&T Acquires CenturyLink’s Fiber Broadband Division
AT&T is purchasing CenturyLink’s consumer fiber broadband division for $5.75 billion, which will add 1.1 million fiber customers across 11 states. The deal, expected to close in the first half of 2026 pending regulatory approval, will also provide AT&T access to over 4 million fiber-enabled locations, allowing for significant expansion in major metro areas. Meanwhile, Lumen, the company formerly known as CenturyLink, will retain its enterprise fiber customers and focus on large businesses, leaving copper DSL users at risk of declining service.
