A shooting outside of a mall in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday night left seven kids injured, according to police.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers heard gunshots just after 11:30 p.m. while on patrol and found six people with gunshot wounds outside the Circle Center Mall.
The victims, all aged between 12 and 17, were taken to hospitals by emergency medical services. One victim is in critical condition, while the other six are stable.
Tanya Terry, deputy chief of operations for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, called the shooting “deeply concerning” and emphasized the need to stop young people from resolving conflicts with firearms.
Terry also noted a pattern of young people gathering downtown after the mall closes at 7 p.m. and urged parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts.
No arrests have been made in the case, and police are conducting an aggravated assault investigation. This incident marks the third shooting in as many weekends in Indianapolis.
Last Sunday, five people, including an officer, were killed in a shooting on the east side of the city. The suspect was shot and killed by an officer.
In another incident on March 16, one person was killed and five others were injured in a bar shooting. A suspect was arrested and charged after police identified the shooter using surveillance footage.
