Australia’s domestic spy chief, ASIO Director General Mike Burgess, has warned of increasing threats from Chinese hackers targeting critical infrastructure, including telecommunications, water, and energy networks. Speaking at an ASIC forum, he stated that the nation now faces a risk of “high impact sabotage,” confirming that attempts to breach these systems are ongoing. He specifically mentioned two hacking units, Salt Typhoon and Volt Typhoon, linked to the Chinese government and military.
