The government appointed Ashley Dalton as the new health minister after Andrew Gwynne’s dismissal for allegedly offensive WhatsApp comments. Dalton, previously with Southend-on-Sea Council, lost in the 2017 and 2019 elections but will now serve as the parliamentary under-secretary of state for public health and prevention. Douglas Alexander will take on a dual role in the Cabinet Office and Department for Business and Trade following the reshuffle.
