ASEAN can aim for 100% tariff-free trade to boost integration efforts, says PM Wong

KUALA LUMPUR, ASEAN Summit Highlights

During the 46th ASEAN Summit, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong urged ASEAN to enhance integration efforts, aiming for a “100 per cent tariff-free” trade area amidst rising global tensions and economic challenges. He emphasized the need to eliminate non-tariff barriers and improve the implementation of existing agreements, pointing out that 24 economic agreements remain unexecuted since 2015. Wong also called for increased collaboration in emerging sectors like the digital economy and the establishment of a regional power grid to boost competitiveness.
