Olavio Hernandez, a high school athlete from Estancia, faced the amputation of his right leg due to monophasic synovial sarcoma after unsuccessful attempts at radiation and surgery. Two years later, he has become an inspiring figure, receiving the NFHS Spirit of Sport award for overcoming adversity, which recognizes his resilience and determination to return to sports. Despite the challenges of adapting to life with a prosthetic leg, Hernandez now competes in both basketball and baseball, embodying a spirit that resonates with many as he continues to inspire others with his journey.
