EU explores UN plan to unblock Hormuz oil route

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has proposed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres the possibility of facilitating oil and gas transport through the Strait of Hormuz by emulating the Black Sea grain export initiative. The strait is currently obstructed due to conflict involving Iran, which has destabilized a significant portion of global oil supply. Kallas emphasized the importance of keeping the strait open for energy and fertilizer production, warning that shortages could lead to food deprivation.
