Australia grants asylum to five Iranian women athletes

Five Iranian women soccer players, including captain Zahra Ghanbari, were extracted from their hotel by Australian police before being granted asylum. The players sought protection after facing backlash for not singing the national anthem prior to an Asian Cup match, where they were accompanied by Iranian government officials. Following their successful asylum application, the players celebrated their new status, while the offer of asylum remains open for the rest of the squad still in Australia.
