The Syrian anti-narcotics unit reported thwarting a significant drug smuggling attempt from Lebanon, although the suspects escaped back into Lebanon. The operation, based on reliable intelligence, resulted in the seizure of approximately 106 kg of hashish, 650,000 Captagon pills, and other stimulants intended for distribution to Jordan and the Arab Gulf states. Since December 2024, 177 million Captagon tablets have been intercepted in the region, indicating ongoing trafficking despite increased crackdowns in Syria. The UNODC highlights the need for regional cooperation to combat the expanding drug trade.
