Humanity is on track to release 41.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere this year, a 0.8% increase from 2023, according to the Global Carbon Project. Emissions must be reduced by 42% by 2030 to limit warming to an agreed-upon threshold. China’s emissions rose slightly, while India’s carbon pollution jumped 4.6% in 2024.
