Alysa Liu won the U.S. its first women’s figure skating Olympic gold in 24 years with a near-flawless performance, achieving a career-best score of 226.79 points at the Milan Cortina Games. She outperformed Japanese skaters Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai, who finished with silver and bronze, respectively. Liu’s victory marks the first gold for an American woman since 2002, while teammate Amber Glenn placed fifth after a strong free skate.
