Confederacy of Treaty 8 Grand Chief Trevor Mercredi emphasized that Indigenous rights are being overlooked. The opposition NDP proposed a non-confidence vote against Smith’s government, which was dismissed by the ruling United Conservative Party as a “political stunt.” Indigenous leaders are also challenging provincial legislation related to referendums on separation in court.
