Climber’s Body Found on Mount McKinley
The body of 41-year-old climber Alex Chiu was recovered two days after he fell about 3,000 feet while ascending Mount McKinley, also known as Denali. Chiu was climbing the West Buttress route with two companions when he fell at Squirrel Point; despite their efforts to assist him, they could not locate him and returned for help. High winds and snow delayed rescue efforts until Wednesday, and Chiu’s death marks one of several fatalities along this route since 1980, coinciding with the peak climbing season that sees around 500 climbers on the mountain.
