Albania plans to establish a sovereign Muslim microstate in Tirana, run by the Sufi sect Bektashi, known for promoting religious harmony and dialogue. The order, founded in the 13th century in the Ottoman Empire, will create a Vatican-like enclave within the capital to serve as their political home. This move is significant as Bektashi Muslims are the fourth largest religious community in Albania, after Sunni Muslims, Orthodox Christians, and Catholics.
