Montreal brothers avoid prison for keeping Inuk woman’s body
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A Montreal man, Francesco Sansalone, was sentenced to 10 months of community detention for keeping the remains of Alasie Tukkiapik, an Inuk woman, on his couch for six months after her death in February 2023. Along with his brother Nicodemo, who received three years probation and 70 days in jail, they failed to report her death due to fears of repercussions from her family. The autopsy could not determine the cause of death, but there were indications of prior injuries. The brothers lived with her body, using air fresheners to mask the odor, until police intervened in September 2023.
