Air Traffic Control Trainees to Get Raise, in Nod to Cost of Living

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration will increase the pay for air traffic controller trainees by $5 an hour to $22.84, aiming to boost recruitment and retention. He plans to fast-track high-scoring applicants into open spots at the academy and upgrade outdated technology, such as rotary phones. President Trump has made it a priority to fix issues within the nation’s air traffic control system following recent crashes and near misses, as the F.A.A. continues to hire air traffic controllers despite recent layoffs.
