After Hurricane Helene, North Carolina’s holiday tourist season grinds to a halt

FEMA has placed nearly half of the 10,129 displaced households in temporary shelters across North Carolina, with the rest already finding long-term housing. Despite the temporary housing program ending, FEMA caseworkers will continue to assist with finding permanent shelter. North Carolina officials are seeking $25 billion from President Biden and Congress to repair homes, roads, bridges, and infrastructure in areas affected by Hurricane Helene.
