African Union Adopts the Statute for the Establishment of a Continental Food Safety Agency to Address Critical Health and Trade Challenges

The African Union has adopted the statute for the establishment of the Africa Food Safety Agency to enhance food safety, protect consumer health, and facilitate trade under the AfCFTA. The Agency will harmonize food safety policies, establish a data hub and alert system, and ensure compliance with international standards to boost competitiveness and consumer confidence in African food products. The AU is fast-tracking the operationalization of the Agency and calls on all stakeholders to support this transformative initiative for a safer and more prosperous Africa.
