The escalating violence in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo has affected testing for the infectious mpox virus disease, which has afflicted thousands in the country and the wider region. Uganda, Burundi, and the DRC are the most infected countries, with Uganda reporting over 500 cases in early 2025. The Africa CDC is focusing on decentralizing testing labs and beginning vaccination efforts in Uganda to combat the disease, while also addressing the recent outbreak of Ebola in the region.
