The Africa CDC, in collaboration with ASLM and with support from the Mastercard Foundation, has launched a program on genomic surveillance and bioinformatics under the SLL initiative to enhance pandemic preparedness in AU Member States. This program includes advanced laboratory equipment, training for healthcare professionals, and a data-sharing platform to improve early disease detection and response to public health emergencies. By investing in skilled workforce development and infrastructure, this initiative aims to strengthen Africa’s capacity for early detection and containment of infectious diseases, setting a new benchmark for innovation in health systems strengthening on the continent.
