US prosecutors have charged billionaire Gautam Adani with allegedly participating in a scheme to pay a $265 million bribe to Indian officials for favourable terms in solar power contracts. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) was not implicated in any wrongdoing in the case, as confirmed by R P Gupta, CMD of SECI. Adani Green Energy Limited secured a $6 billion investment in solar energy, claiming to develop 8 GW of solar projects and 2 GW of solar manufacturing capacity, leading to job creation and carbon dioxide displacement.
