Adam Barnard was jailed for 19 years after joking with police about strangling someone “like on The Simpsons” before murdering his partner Tara Kershaw. Despite previous assaults against Kershaw, Barnard was released the same day of his arrest for hitting her, claiming her injuries were self-inflicted. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the case, with six officers or staff members served with conduct notices for their handling of Kershaw’s repeated pleas for help before her tragic death.
