In Mae Sot, Thailand, the Sunshine Care Centre provides basic care for around 140 wounded fighters from Myanmar’s civil conflict, many of whom have lost limbs or suffered serious injuries from landmines, RPGs, and bombs. These fighters, unable to return home due to fear of military reprisal, have joined the resistance against the military coup and receive medical attention from volunteers in the rudimentary facility. Among them is Ko Khant, a former chef turned fighter who lost his hand and eye in combat and now helps run the centre while declining a prosthetic hand in solidarity with other amputees in greater need.
