In 2024, the erotic thriller genre has seen a resurgence with films like “Babygirl,” directed by Halina Reijn, which follows Fortune 500 CEO Romy (played by Kidman) as she embarks on a taboo affair with intern Samuel (played by Harris Dickinson). Despite a promising premise and strong performances, the film’s focus on kink scenes over character development results in a lackluster exploration of complex themes and relationships. Overall, “Babygirl” falls short of its potential, earning a grade of C.
