County officials in Avery County reported that over 20 residents are currently unreachable by first responders due to the loss of bridges destroyed in Hurricane Helene. More than 400 residents were displaced and approximately 120 homes were destroyed or severely damaged. Recovery efforts have been slow, with displaced residents staying in hotels or campers as rebuilding efforts continue.
