Each year, Chicago’s Chinatown and Uptown neighborhoods host vibrant Lunar New Year parades to celebrate the festival, marking the beginning of the year of the snake on Jan. 29, 2025. The traditions date back to the early Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century in the Loop and later in Chinatown, as well as the establishment of “New Chinatown” on Argyle Street in the 1970s. This year, both neighborhoods will hold parades on Feb. 8 and 9, respectively, featuring colorful floats, dancing, feasting, and fireworks, continuing the century-old tradition of cultural celebration and community gathering.
