Former Central Coast Mariners player Angel Torres is on trial for alleged sexual assault, with charges including aggravated sexual intercourse without consent and intimidation. The court heard Torres met the 21-year-old woman at a nightclub, used Instagram to show he was a professional football player, and engaged in a sexual encounter that the woman later expressed discomfort with. The trial, which began a year after the incident, has seen Torres defend the encounter as consensual, while Football Australia has temporarily suspended him and his contract with the Mariners has not been renewed.
