East Carolina’s Parker Byrd, who had his right leg amputated below the knee three years ago, achieved his first college hit with a single in a 12-0 win over William & Mary while wearing an athletic prosthetic. Byrd, a sophomore, previously drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in his only other plate appearance this season, and has overcome significant challenges since the boating accident that led to his injury. Despite missing his freshman season due to recovery, Byrd’s perseverance and determination have earned him a place on the team and the support of his coach and teammates.
