A genetic study of Asian elephants in northern Cambodia revealed a larger population than previously thought, with 51 elephants in the Prey Lang, Preah Roka, and Chhaeb Wildlife Sanctuaries showing greater genetic diversity. Researchers believe the area could become a “national stronghold” for elephants, contributing to Cambodia’s biodiversity conservation goals.
