The captain of the cargo ship Solong, involved in a collision with a U.S. tanker in the North Sea, is a Russian national in U.K. police custody on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence. The 59-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was arrested by authorities in northeast England following the incident, in which one sailor from the Solong is presumed dead. The vessel’s owner, Ernst Russ, confirmed that the crew consisted of Russian and Filipino nationals, and U.K. officials do not suspect foul play in the collision that caused both ships to catch fire.
