Hundreds call for release of Palestinian activist, Columbia grad

In Chicago’s Federal Plaza, over 250 people gathered for an “emergency protest” against the arrest and potential deportation of activist Mahmoud Khalil, who led Columbia University’s pro-Palestinian encampment. Demonstrators demanded Khalil’s release, linking his detention to a crackdown on student activism by the Trump administration. ICE officers arrested Khalil on Saturday, accusing him of ties to Hamas, and he is set to appear in immigration court in Louisiana on March 21.
