Why it’s no surprise so few Brits have applied for Spanish citizenship since Brexit

Spain, home to the EU’s largest British population, has seen very few UK nationals apply for Spanish citizenship post-Brexit, with only 2,363 out of 403,925 registered residents opting for Spanish nationality. Factors contributing to this low number include Spain’s limited dual citizenship options, a lengthy ten-year residency requirement for citizenship, and the popular alternative of acquiring Irish citizenship through ancestry to maintain EU rights without renouncing UK nationality.
