Gunmen loyal to ousted leader Bashar Assad ambushed a Syrian security patrol near Latakia, leading to clashes that have killed over 1,000 people in four days, reigniting the country’s civil war. The violence targeted the Alawite community, Assad’s supporters, resulting in revenge killings by Sunni militants.
