Syria leader calls for peace after hundreds of civilians killed

Syria’s leader Ahmed Sharaa has called for peace after reports of hundreds of Alawite civilians being killed in clashes with security forces, bringing the total death toll to over 1,000 people. The violence in Latakia and Tartus has led to a wave of clashes between Assad loyalists and government forces, prompting civilians to flee their homes and seek refuge at a Russian military base.
