Bangladesh army was warned against violence in student protests: UN Human Rights Chief: | World News

During the July-August 2024 student protests in Bangladesh, the United Nations warned the army of being banned from peacekeeping missions if they engaged in violence, leading to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser. UN human rights chief Volker Turk highlighted the UN’s role in crisis intervention, sending a fact-finding mission that revealed attacks on minorities and estimated casualties, ultimately supporting the protesting students.
