Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has sold his historic car collection to Red Bull heir Mark Mateschitz for a world-record price, including Ferraris raced by F1 champions. Despite interest from sovereign funds, Ecclestone’s 69-car collection was sold to Mateschitz, who plans to make it accessible to the public. The undisclosed amount, reportedly around £500m, marks the largest single transaction in car collecting history, with Ecclestone expressing satisfaction in knowing the cars will be displayed in a museum for all to enjoy.
