Alaska State Troopers report multiple backcountry skiers trapped in avalanche near Anchorage

Multiple skiers were trapped in the Alaska backcountry after being caught in an avalanche near Girdwood, around 64 kilometres south of Anchorage. The number of skiers and their conditions were unknown, with rescue attempts hindered by snow depth. Alaska State Troopers planned to reach the remote site on Wednesday, possibly requiring aircraft assistance due to its location off the Seward Highway.
