James Harrison, known as Australia’s most prolific blood and plasma donor, has passed away at age 88. Over the span of more than half a century, he donated blood and plasma 1,173 times, saving the lives of 2.4 million babies with a rare antibody called anti-D. His contributions were crucial in preventing haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn. Despite his significant impact, Harrison remained humble and encouraged others to donate blood as well.
