RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s Carnival festivities are in full swing, with raucous street parties like Friends of the Jaguar drawing thousands of revelers in leopard- and jaguar-print clothing. Sao Paulo’s samba school parades honored Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous traditions and paid tribute to iconic musicians, while Rio’s traditional Carmelitas street party saw participants dressed as nuns and priests. Mayor Eduardo Paes handed over the key to the city to Carnival monarch King Momo, marking the start of his five-day symbolic reign over the celebrations.
