Spain to test subsidising holidays for foreign retirees

Spain’s Institute for Seniors and Social Services and the country’s Social Security system are considering allowing Spaniards subsidized holidays abroad through the Imserso scheme, while also offering foreign retirees the same opportunity in Spain. The Imserso scheme aims to improve pensioners’ quality of life, reduce dependence, and boost tourism and economic activity in Spain. However, concerns have been raised by hoteliers and travel agencies regarding potential profit losses and feasibility of offering trips abroad at such low prices.
