Top Tory Richard Holden accidentally revealed that the Conservatives only increased prison spaces by 455 in fourteen years, compared to Labour’s 27,830 new places. The shadow paymaster general’s written parliamentary question also showed that the Tories closed over 7,500 prison cells between 2010 and 2024, while Labour increased double bunked cells by 9,000 and overcrowded accommodation by 7,000 between 1997 and 2010.
