Quam Babatunde, a 34-year-old asylum seeker from Nigeria, was fatally stabbed in Dublin city over the weekend. Gardaí have launched a murder investigation and are reportedly making progress in identifying the perpetrators. The incident took place on South Anne Street after an altercation following a night out at a nightclub. Another man in his 30s was also injured. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan called for those involved to surrender, citing CCTV footage as evidence. The community and politicians have expressed shock and called for increased police presence in the city center. Tánaiste Simon Harris and Sinn Féin spokesperson Matt Carthy have both voiced concern over the incident, highlighting the need for improved public safety measures.
