Panic gripped eastern Congo’s second-largest city as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels advanced, causing residents to flee and looters to pillage the streets. The rebels, accused of violence and atrocities, seized Goma and pushed southward towards Bukavu, leaving chaos and destruction behind. The international community is urged to intervene as the conflict escalates and the rebels gain control, posing a threat to the central government in Kinshasa.
