Schools in northern Australia have closed as Tropical Cyclone Zelia intensifies, with authorities bracing for the storm to reach category five strength and cross the coast near Port Hedland. The cyclone has prompted closures of about a dozen schools, shutdown of roads, and activation of an evacuation center in South Hedland. Residents are preparing for potentially life-threatening conditions as wind gusts of up to 250km/h are expected, with a cyclone watch and act warning in place for several areas.
