The High Court ruled that the Metropolitan Police cannot dismiss officers by removing their vetting clearance, following a legal challenge by Sgt Lino Di Maria. Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley expressed frustration at the ruling, stating that officers unfit for vetting cannot be sacked, leading to a “hopeless” situation for policing. The judge highlighted the need for government regulations to allow for the dismissal of officers without vetting clearance, prompting the Home Office to act swiftly to address the issue.
