Suspected Somali pirates seize boat off Horn of Africa

Somali pirates have seized a Yemeni fishing boat off the Horn of Africa, with a European naval operation investigating the incident. The attack targeted a traditional dhow near Eyl in Somalia, with suspects stealing small boats. Somali piracy, which had diminished after 2011, has seen a resurgence due to increased attacks in the Red Sea corridor by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, leading to seven reported incidents in 2024.
